Checking oil level on a Dodge Nitro.

To assure proper lubrication of your vehicle’s engine, the engine oil must be maintained at the correct level. Check the oil level at regular intervals, such as every fuel stop. The best time to check the engine oil level is about five minutes after a fully warmed up engine is shut off. Checking the oil while the vehicle is on level ground will improve the accuracy of the oil level readings. Always maintain the oil level within the SAFE zone on the dipstick. Adding one quart of oil when the reading is at the bottom of the SAFE zone will result in a reading at the top of the safe zone on these engines.

Overfilling or underfilling the crankcase will cause aeration or loss of oil pressure. This could damage your engine.

Change Engine Oil on a Dodge Nitro.

Under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6,000 miles (10 000 km) or 6 months, whichever comes first.

For best performance and maximum protection for all engines under all types of operating conditions, the manufacturer recommends engine oils that are API Certified and meet the requirements of Chrysler Material Standard MS-6395.

Engine Oil Viscosity Dodge Nitreo 3.7L Engine.

SAE 5W-20 engine oil is recommended for all operating temperatures. This engine oil improves low temperature starting and vehicle fuel economy. Your engine oil filler cap shows the recommended engine oil viscosity for your vehicle. Lubricants which do not have both the engine oil certification mark and the correct SAE viscosity grade number should not be used.

Engine Oil Viscosity Dodge Nitro 4.0L Engine.

SAE 10W-30 engine oil is preferred. SAE 5W-30 engine oil is allowed during cold weather only to improve cold weather starting. Lubricants which do not have both the engine oil certification mark and the correct SAE viscosity grade number should not be used.

Synthetic Engine Oils. You may use synthetic engine oils provided the recommended oil quality requirements are met, and the recommended maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes are followed.

  1. I am wanting to know how many quartz of oil it will take for a 2008 dodge nitro if I don’t change the oil filter just the oil it’s self…??? Any answers would be great thank you..

  2. I took my 2011 Dodge Nitro to the dealer for an oil change. I have the 3.7l V6 engine. I’ve been driving it for 6 days now and my husband noticed a pile of oil in our driveway. He got underneath the vehicle and see oil has been thrown all over the bottom as well as in the engine bay. According to the receipt 6 quarts of 5w-20 were put in my SUV. What kind of problems am I potentially facing from having too much oil put in my vehicle?

  3. Hi

I have a dodge nitro 2.8 I’ve just changed the automatic 5 speed box …
you state 4.8 litres to fill is that a change of fluid not counting the remaining fluid in the torque converter or are we talking 4.8 for a complete overhaul including what the torque converter takes.

    Thanks
