ENGINE OIL. Keep your engine properly lubricated by keeping the engine oil at the proper level. It is normal for an engine to consume some engine oil. Check the oil level at regular intervals. If the engine oil pressure warning lamp on the instrument panel comes on, you need to check your engine oil level right away.
CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL Chevrolet Spark.
- Park vehicle on level ground.
- After stopping engine, wait a few minutes to allow oil to drain back into oil pan, If engine is cold, oil will take longer to drain into the pan.
- Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean.
- Re-insert dipstick completely.
- Pull the dipstick out again.
- Check the oil on the dipstick to make sure it is not contaminated.
- Check oil level, as shown on the dipstick. Oil should be between MIN and MAX.
- If the oil level is below MIN, add enough oil of the same grade as is currently in the engine to raise the oil level to MAX. Do not fill over MAX mark. The engine oil filler cap is located on the cylinder head cover as shown in the illustration below. See “FLUID CHART” in the index of Section 9 for oil specification.
Adding too much oil can affect engine operation. Do not allow oil to go above MAX mark on dipstick. Overfilling can damage your vehicle by:
- Increasing oil consumption.
- Fouling spark plugs.
- Building excessive carbon deposits in the engine.
CHANGING ENGINE OIL AND FILTER Chevrolet Spark.
Engine oil loses its ability to lubricate when contaminated. Be sure to change your engine oil according to maintenance schedule. Be sure to replace the engine oil filter each time you change engine oil. Under severe conditions, change oil and oil filter more frequently than is recommended in the standard maintenance schedule.

I overfilled oil in my Chev Spark, 2007 Model, 0.8L. The oil level is about 5mm above the maximum level on the dipstick. Is this a problem?. Please advise.

I have a Chevrolet spark 2010 second generation 995 cc engine. The last oil change was made by the dealer and when I drained the sump it had 2.5 lt of oil including the content of the filter. I made this oil change and changed the filter and put 2.5 lt of oil and it measured a little bit up from half way on the oil dipstick. I think if you put 3.2 lt in the motor it would be over full.
Something for you to know is an imperial quart is 1.137 lt and a US quart is 0.946lt. Some countries like Australia and England use imperial quarts

Thank you very much for your feedback, our specs for this car Chevrolet Spark first generation are taken from Shell oil catalog, and there the oil capacity is 3.2 liters.
Also in Casatrol and Mobile catalogs the oil volume for the same car is 2.9 liters (maybe this one is without changig the oil filter).

I have a 2014 Chevy spark is not sure on engine size but it needs an oil change and I know the engine and transmission run off the same oil so how much to I fill it up with after draining?
